Perfume labels

Perfume stickers and labels are important. They inform us what is in the bottle and they put in perspective what it may smell like. If we look at a perfume label, we can find information about the scent notes, descriptions of the fragrance, the brand’s reputation, ethics, ingredients and so forth. Let’s break down how to read a perfume label so that we can make informed decisions when selecting the perfect scent

Scent notes are akin to the small components that make up a perfume. They’re the various smells that are put together to make a perfume. When you read the label on a perfume, you can see what the scent notes are in the perfume and have a general idea what it may smell like. If a perfume contains notes of citrus and vanilla, for instance, it will probably smell fresh and sweet.

How to decode fragrance descriptions on perfume labels

The fragrance descriptions listed on the label of a perfume bottle can provide us with more information about what a perfume smells like. They describe it with words that conjure up what the scent is like: “floral” for flowery ones, “woody” for earthy. From reading these descriptions, we’ll have some clue as to what the overall character of a fragrance might be, even before it reaches our noses.
